One of CAABWA’s greatest strengths is its internship program. We have a long successful history with managing international youth internships in African countries.  From 2001 – 2008 CAABWA partnered with The Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association resulting in the successful administration of 32 Global Affairs Canada-sponsored internships and 6 TFO Canada internships. For more than a decade CAABWA developed and maintained a long-standing relationship with UTSC Faculty of International Development, now the the Centre for Critical Development Studies. CAABWA has partnered with at the University of Toronto Scarborough to administer student internships in Eswatini.

CAABWA internships, both past and present, are focused on private sector development and are designed to strengthen women-led trade support organizations and businesses in Africa.  The internship program promotes access to international markets, with the goal of creating export opportunities and women-led professional networks across Africa. Interns are tasked with roles focused on improving access to markets, networking opportunities and supporting specific initiatives to improve design, linkages and other capacities for CAABWA’s partners.

Hear From Our Interns

"My favourite part of the internship was that I was present throughout the entire process...I also had the opportunity to put my graphic design skills to work, revamping company logos and creating new ones as well."

-Belen S. Mulugeta

(Ghana Export Promotion Council and Artisan Aid, Ghana, 2007)

"You have much to offer the people and organizations that you will encounter but also have much to learn... If you are open to what you hear, see, small and feel, you will have the most incredible life changing experience."

-Natalie Capone

(Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Small Industries Development Organization- Women Economic Development and ACCESS! for African Business Women in International Trade, 2007-2008)

"Get as involved as you can. Grab every opportunity you have to interact with the people and the culture. Make friends. It's a one of a kind experience that doesn't happen twice."

-Angelo Carreira

(Design Africa, South Africa, 2008)
